Representation matters: Visibility is key to improving gender equality

Since the 1990s, more and more women have beenstudying at ETH Zurich, currently accounting foralmost a third of the total number of students. Amongthese, female doctoral students are the fastestgrowing segment. However, the proportion of femaleprofessors at ETH Zurich is still at only around14 percent. “Clearly, the pipeline is still leaking”, saysRenate Schubert, the Associate Vice President forEqual Opportunities. “Female role models needto become even more prominent in order to encouragemore young women to follow in their footsteps.”This is why the Gender Monitoring Report 2017/18focuses on the visibility of women at ETH Zurich.
