Smart City Vienna

Smart City Vienna

Vienna is one of the most successful cities in the world when it comes to quality of life, municipal infrastructure and social innovation. Unsurprisingly, Vienna is growing! Around three million people will live in the metropolitan area in the medium term. Demand for work and modern infrastructure – such as affordable and functional housing, renewable energy and eco-friendly mobility – is on the rise. However, the City of Vienna is facing challenging times ahead. Besides globalisation and the digital transformation of our lifes, climate change and a severe shortage of natural resources, represent the most pending necessities in the coming decades. This will determine the future design of urban habitats as cities do cause 75% of global CO2 emissions!Austria’s capital aims to hold its top position! From now on, Smart City Vienna intends to consistenly improve its ecological, economic and social performance. It is also willing to make a fair contribution to the decarbonization of the economy in Austria and in Europe. That is why the City of Vienna draws on the concept of “smart city” – a city that is fit for the future, geared towards opportunities and capable of providing credible perspectives to its citizens!
